My name is Ben Richards and I’m an accredited Beer Sommelier, so I spend a lot of my time talking to people about the wide range of beers and flavours that can be found locally, nationally and further afield, as well as explaining the brewing process and how to match it with food. I love the stories from beer’s past and the speed at which the industry and drinker’s tastes are expanding, as well as the ingenuity and passion that has driven brewing from a tribal activity to an industry that has fuelled empires.
A lifelong enthusiast, when I’m not enthusing about beer in person I can usually be found researching, brewing or writing about it. I also try to spend as much time as I can with my wife and two children in Devon, exploring the local area or renovating my slightly ramshackle old house. I’m also a sucker for a challenge or adventure, which is why I’ll be spending a very large amount of my time throughout 2017 finding out if it is possible to grow a very small amount of beer.
