It’s the last activity on the allotment as I work out how to judge when the hops are ripe before picking and drying them ahead of the brew.

How hard is it to brew a beer from scratch?
Throughout 2017 I’m going to find out if it is possible to grow, collect and process all of the ingredients needed to make a beer and you can follow my journey.
I’ll be writing, photographing and documenting all of it, culminating in a 10 week podcast that will begin in September. There are a fair number of challenges to overcome and I’m going to need some help from friends old and new, but it’s going to be a lot of fun – I hope you’ll join me.
